Signature Program
The Confident Competitor
Mental Performance & Emotional Wellness for Athletes Ages 13-22
Young athletes are learning to perform while simultaneously learning who they are. Competition can build extraordinary courage, discipline, and resilience - and it can also intensify perfectionism, comparison, fear of failure, external validation, and the belief that worth depends on performance.
The Confident Competitor helps athletes develop the psychological flexibility to perform under pressure, recover from setbacks, build self-belief through action, and develop an identity that is bigger than a score, time, ranking, roster, or result.
Athlete-informed. Clinically grounded.

For Teams & Organizations
An educational workshop series, brought to your athletes.
The program can be delivered to athletic teams, clubs, schools, and organizations as a workshop series or as individual sessions, in person or virtually. It is built for real competitors: direct, unsentimental, and grounded in psychological research rather than motivational language.
01
Confidence Under Pressure
How to compete when you don't feel confident, handle nerves, recover quickly from mistakes, take healthy risks, and build self-belief through action.
02
The Resilient Competitor
Fear of failure, perfectionism, comparison, setbacks, injuries, criticism, team dynamics, and learning to tolerate discomfort instead of avoiding it.
03
More Than the Score
Identity, self-worth, social media, appearance, relationships, external validation, and learning that what I accomplish is something I do - not who I am.
04
Parent Night - Raising a Confident Competitor
How to raise a driven athlete without accidentally increasing performance anxiety, perfectionism, or conditional self-worth.
Parents are part of an athlete's emotional system. This evening explores communication before and after competition, responding to failure, supporting autonomy, managing expectations, and encouraging ambition without making love, approval, or identity feel conditional on performance.
The tone is non-blaming throughout. Parents of competitive athletes are, almost without exception, trying to do right by their kids in an environment that makes that genuinely difficult. Families looking for deeper work can also explore family therapy.
Education, not group therapy
Team workshops and parent nights are educational programming. They are not group therapy, they are not a substitute for individual mental health care, and attending a workshop does not create a therapist-client relationship.
Athletes or families who want individual support are welcome to inquire separately about therapy for athletes and high achievers.
Programming is delivered by Melissa Paakh, Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee and Doctoral Researcher, practicing under the clinical supervision of Dr. Markus Rogan, PsyD, LMFT. No claims are made regarding competitive results, times, scores, rosters, scholarships, or college recruitment.
